Trouble shooting with leopard gecko's
Owning leopard gecko there may be time's where you might hit a problem with them. Some of the common problem's are...
"My gecko wont eat".
How is your set up ?
Are the tempature's right in the viv ?
Assist feeding...
Your gecko may have been moved to a new enviroment in which case they may be off their food for a couple of day's so a simple way to try and help start them of again would be ...
1. Pre kill some of the gecko's regular bug's i.e mealworm's.hold one mealworm's in one hand
2. Pick the gecko up with the other hand, gently tap the jaw line untill the gecko open's it's mouth.
3. Keeping the gecko's nose upward's at all time's drop the mealworm into the gecko's mouth,if the gecko spit's it out then repeat a few time's.
Another reason why you gecko may not eat is it could be unwell which why it is a good idea to keep a regular weight chart so you can keep an eye on the weight as weight loss is a good indicator of illnes.
How are your gecko's stool's ?
If your gecko has runny or loose stool's the it would be a good idea to have your vet take a sample to have it checked out for worm's or other parisite's such as crypto as crypto can be fatal to your gecko and very contagous to any other reptile that you may have.
Is your gecko having problem's with it's eye's ?
First you have to determine if it is a humidity problem.
Does you gecko have a moist hide in it's viv to help out with shedding ,if it does not then it would be worth putting one in as the gecko's need this to help loosen up the skin as without it skin can become stuck to eyelid's and toe's.
If your gecko does have shed dried up around the eye's or toe's then i would recommend getting a tub with a lid (put a few hole's in for ventilation) and with just enough warm water to cover the feet (spider tub's are good for this) soak your gecko for 5 min's then using cotton bud's gently brush agaist the dried skin to ease it off.
